Mayhem 337: Memoir of a Combat Advisor in Afghanistan by Chad Rickard

Mayhem 337: Memoir of a Combat Advisor in Afghanistan by Chad Rickard

“Gritty, graphic, and real.” Winner of several major book awards! Senior Infantry Sergeant Chad Rickard takes you through a harrowing tour as an embedded infantry advisor to the Afghan National Army. A veteran of numerous combat tours with the U.S. Army, Rickard faced his ultimate challenge in Khost Province Afghanistan as he battled Haqqani Taliban in 2009. Often outnumbered, his team skillfully directed artillery and close air support to even the odds and inflict great damage upon their enemies. From large-scale mountain warfare, to close quarters battle on the streets of Khost City, his memoir leaves nothing to the imagination.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Upon retiring from the U.S. Army, I wanted to put my experiences on paper so that it could be passed down to my children. I also sought to explain why I missed so much of my oldest son's life. After nearly a year of writing and lots of encouragement from my fellow veterans, I turned a large portion of my writing into a book.

"I walked about ten steps away from the truck, towards Rough Rider 6, before all hell broke loose. Suddenly, AK-47 fire burst from the upper floors of the municipal building and the bullets snapped overhead towards the vehicles and the street where I walked. I'm not saying they aimed at me personally but it sure as hell snapped by close enough it could have been. At 6'4" tall and 235 pounds I probably made an easy target. There was no mistaking the hypersonic crack of AK-47 rounds as they snapped by my ears. The gunner I had walked away from instantaneously answered the gunfire. His M-2, 50-caliber machine gun and several other weapons came to life and the fight began in earnest. Eerily quiet turned into chaos and pandemonium as the din of that initial burst of gunfire deafened me."

Free eBook: Sat. 7/24 – Mon. 7/26, 2021

Three Lovers. Three lessons.

Many Million Dreams Ago defies a typical “romance memoir” by dealing with the deeper consequences of discovering such feelings too early on. Its realism is recounted in three eras of a life gone awry from self-harm, codependency, and casual intimacies.

Through the endless pursuits of a hopeless romantic in trying to find his other half, we join him on his journey toward an idyllic destiny.
