I Can be Kind by Rainbow Gal

I Can be Kind by Rainbow Gal

Will befriending a despicable Piranha put a cheerful goldfish’s life in peril?
Will she become the nasty Piranha’s next dinner???

Meet Oscar, the Piranha, who has a bad temper, bad manners, and a bad attitude. But when one bold little goldfish named Marla decides to confront Oscar and even goes to the extent of befriending him, the outrageously bitter Piranha starts to feel happy for the first time in his life.

Thanks to Marla’s exemplary behaviour, Oscar learns what it’s like to be kind, caring and generous.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I got inspired when I was about 22 years old. I imagined a Piranha falling in love with a goldfish and dying of hunger because he did not want to eat the love of his life. Since that ending was way too tragic for a young
audience—I came up with a different conclusion, which you'll discover when you purchase this adorably charming short story that is a funny yet touching tale that reminds us of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” with the remarkably transformative potential of willpower, acceptance and friendship.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
When I was about 5 or 6 years old, my mother would bring me to spend the whole day with her in the shopping center where she worked. At times, spending an entire day in a tiny shopping mall got very boring. So to entertain myself, every day at around the same time, I use to go to the pet shop to watch the owner feed a poor little goldfish to a nasty, voracious and hungry piranha. I guess with time; I made up this fantasy story where a piranha falls in love with a goldfish—instead of eating it.

Book Sample
One day as Oscar was frightening the goldfish by showing off his big teeth, Marla the Goldfish, tiny and delicate, came right up to the glass next to the piranha and said:
– You don’t scare me with your big teeth!
Oscar was outraged!
– Well, you should be scared, because tomorrow, I might gobble you up!
Marla: – What will be, will be.
– I will not live in fear of you.
– You are nothing but a big bully
– But I bet that somewhere inside you, there is some good.
– You just need a buddy.
