Oliver witnesses a serious accident as he returns home, after concluding his route as a traveling salesman. The incident seems to send a ripple through his life that he instinctively fights against, but eventually comes to accept.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Several thoughts were swirling together: Plans for camping, memories of prior trips, things we've seen, fatigue from long-haul trips, and a bridge. That recalled a moment from last summer when the words that start the story went through my head. I began thinking them in a bit of a mocking manner, a bit as admonishment for past behavior, and as I did, I began to imagine a character thinking that same thing, and started writing.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Oliver was teased from an imagined moment and could have been left as just that afterthought, but the bridge of recollection and an earworm kept the thought alive. Not long after writing started, the basics of the first chapter fell into place and the others began to fall into their roles.
Book Sample
I recall the last thing I was thinking before I stopped, and call my wife, because I don't want her to be concerned. She answers, and I explain, "I'm fine, Lottie." I spare the details and say, only, "Another vehicle left the roadway. They were the only one involved."
"Okay," she answers, and there is hesitance: As if considering whether she can trust me.
I tell her, "I need to see if i can help. I'll – probably – need to make a statement." I explain, "I wanted to let you know I'll be delayed."
Almost in a whisper, my Lottie answers, "Be careful, Ollie." Then, more loudly, she calls across the room to tell our daughter, "Ya dad says ya such a brat, he's stayin' out."
I am nearly in tears as I listen to their back and forth, as Trinity comes right back until her mother gives up the pretense and offers her the phone. I am closer yet to tears as i hear her say, "Hi daddy. What happened?"
I tell her, only, "There was an accident. I need to see if everyone's okay."
