The Homeric “long-haired Achaeans” were part of the Mycenaean culture of Greece (1600 BC – 1100 BC). They were a Bronze Age people who were quite removed in time and culture from the Classical period (5th – 4th centuries BC). In this novel a young Achaean prince is captured in a raid. His younger brother Orfeo, and a group of warriors, are sent on a mission to look for him. Telemon, a legendary warrior, and Zurga, an elderly member of a group called the Wanderers, are soon joined by Clarice, a girl who is a master of disguise. To their dismay they find that the kidnapped prince has been made a galley slave and that the maritime power of Thera plans to conquer the entire Mediterranean. Can they avert disaster?
The story starts just before the eruption of Thera in about 1600 BC. This cataclysm destroyed the lavish Minoan culture of Crete. It also allowed the Mycenaeans to expand throughout the eastern Mediterranean. The Mycenaean culture – while originally warlike and rather rustic – developed vibrant cites, such as Pylos. This era was the setting for Homer’s epic poems about the Trojan War (perhaps 12th or 11th century BC).

In 2011, a poll conducted by Ipsos for Reuters News in twenty-four countries found that 41% identified themselves as “evolutionists” and 28% as “creationists,” with 31% indicating that they “simply don’t know what to believe.”

The interesting thing to notice about this survey is not that there are three groups. There is always that third group that is not quite ready to commit. The interesting thing is that they are very closely divided into thirds, meaning a third Do believe in creation or evolution, a third DON’T and a third are not ready to commit.
Belief is a powerful thing and it cannot be easily separated from the believer. This is what concerns me; a third of us did not seem to have a belief. Unlike the 10th dentist in a popular tooth paste commercial. Remember, 9 out of 10 dentists recommend …. That is a brave dentist, I mean 9 of his colleagues chose xyz and he felt so convicted that he said “No.” I want to know more of the other 9. Did they all agree? If so, my admiration for number 10 grows. I bet that at least four of them shrugged their shoulder.
There is an unwritten law of physics concerning groups, “there is always a third.” When it comes to people, there are three flavors; the Do’s, the Don’ts and the Dazed. In case you are taking physics, don’t write down this law of three, it is unwritten for a reason.

The Do’s, are those who believe. Not just in a God, but they just have a belief in something, or an idea. The Don’ts are those who do not believe, and they struggle not to agree with the Do’s. They find their belief impossible to be true, or unworthy of their attention. Lastly, the Dazed are those who don’t know what to do. They don’t know whether they want to believe or not, they don’t know if believing is good or bad. They are essentially lukewarm.

I wrote this book with you in mind, whomever you may be.

Bryan Lindberg is a reluctant therapist. Why? He never planned to be a therapist. His plan was to retire from the military at 48 but a combat injury during the Gulf War changed that plan. At the age of 29 (after 11 years of service) he was retired and unemployed. That is how the journey to be a Reluctant Therapist began.

Today he has two separate graduate degrees.; Masters of Art in Theology from Providence College and a Masters of Science in Human Development from the University of Rhode Island and is a License Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).

He started private practice after he and his wife of 21 years moved to the Blue Ridge of Southwest Virginia with there 3 children.

Bryan specializes in Systemic Theory; all aspects of living are connected. This is to say an issue is never isolated, it effects many different components and the solution is found by examining the entire system.
