When I started writing this I was amazed at the lack of information about these really interesting birds. The internet had mostly rewritten information from the Honeycreeper Wikipedia page. So I set out to try and create not just a photo book, but a book that included some facts about the birds and commentary on their behavior.The photos for this book were taken in a certified bird conservatory which means they might not be behaving the same that they do in the wild, however from what I have been able to learn from the various references I was able to find their behavior is pretty much the same.I hope you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed putting it together and as much as Vinny and I enjoyed photographing them.~ Deborah Carney

A series of books that identify full color images of Lilacs. All images are correctly identified from tags that were attached to the bushes at the time they were photographed. Due to the size of the completed books, we have broken Lilacs A to Z into four books, varieties that start with A through E, F through L, M through Q, and R through Z.

Years ago I lived in Rochester, NY, which has a park with hundreds of Lilac bushes. Each spring there is a Lilac Festival, usually during the peak blooming season for the majority of the bushes. There are some that bloom ahead of the rest, and some late blooming, but since I lived in the area, I could photograph all the Lilacs at their peaks.

I got my love of lilacs from my Grandmother, who had a beautiful, large lilac bush in front of her country farmhouse. Every Spring when we visited her the smell of lilacs floated in the air and through the open windows into the house. It was tall enough to shade part of the yard where I would sit and read.

After photographing the Lilacs for years, I started to realize that I wanted to know more about them, what they actually were. After that I started photographing not only the bushes but also the tags and signs around them so that I could accurately identify the specific varieties.

All identifications were made from tags attached to the lilac bushes as they were photographed. Any bush without a tag is not included in this book.

About the Author
Born and raised in the Deep South, Deborah Epperson grew up during the era of the Civil Rights Movement, integration, and Vietnam. She received a BS degree in biology and English in Texas, and later moved to Atlanta to work and pursue post graduate work at Georgia Tech. After working in the scientific field for twenty years, she turned her talents to writing fiction and nonfiction. Her nonfiction and poetry have been published in newspapers and magazines locally and nationally.

Through her storytelling, Deborah tackles issues most people, especially Southerners, can identify with and, like her, may have struggled to understand. She enjoys writing stories and characters steeped in the lyrical traditions and mystical surroundings of the Deep South where she grew up.

A transplanted Texan, Deborah lives in Montana with her family. When not working on her next novel or article, she enjoys doing pet therapy work with her golden retriever and volunteering in animal rescue.
