I decided to write novels at age fourteen. My English composition instructor, a World War II combat veteran, advised those of us who wanted to follow Melville, Conrad and Hemingway to live some adventures so we could tell stories people would want to read. During my adventures in the Middle East, Europe, and Russia, I saw failed states and societies but was surprised at how much their people had in common with Americans. This made me wonder: “Could it happen here?” In writing KAMAS, my greatest concern has been to gain a readership before the events it describes come to pass.

Growing up in Wisconsin, William Hess’s imagination ran wild. Having so many weird and fascinating dreams helped create his first story, The Zephrus. Thomas J. Prestopnik (pronounced press-TOP-nick) is the author of Nicholas Raven and the Wizards’ Web, a 120 chapter epic fantasy for adults and older teens. He began planning and outlining this Lord of the Rings inspired novel in 1978 when he was fifteen, three years after first reading J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved classic, and wrote the first draft between 1999 and 2013.

He has also written The Endora Trilogy, a fantasy-adventure series for pre-teens and adults comprised of The Timedoor (Book 1), The Sword and the Crown (Book 2) and The Saving Light (Book 3). I started writing at a very young age, and was greatly encouraged by my teachers at school. One of my English teachers used to wade through the stack of papers that students would submit for writing assignments. She would find mine, and always read it first. That had a huge effect on me.
Now I am supported by family and friends who read my writings and leave me feedback.
I don’t seem to stick to a particular genre, but write the stories that I would want to read.

On a secret military base tucked in a remote desert mountain, a dangerous machine lies hidden from the American public.

Known as “The Actuator”, this machine is capable of transforming entire communities into alternate realities. In theory, these often terrifying realities are reversible. The scientists in charge of this machine employ operatives called Machine Monks, who attune their minds to manifest single ideas from the realms of fantasy and science fiction. Overnight, the Actuator becomes the worst menace the earth has ever seen, claiming lives in staggering numbers.

Can a few surviving Machine Monks band together to set things right again? It all depends on whether Red McLaren and the Monks can survive their journey through the various realms that separate them from the Actuator, where ever-present orcs, aliens, pirates, and vampires seek to destroy them.

They must move quickly, as time is running out to stop the Actuator and the villain who controls it and the earth’s destiny.
