Manolakas to pursue writing as a career. He taught her that the characters wrote the book–she didn’t. Raised just outside Los Angeles by a surgeon father and a homemaker-author mother, Dale E. Manolakas had always aspired to an acting career, but also had to make a living.

Dale E. Manolakas earned her B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and M.A., M.S., Ph.D. and J.D. degrees from the University of Southern California. She is a member of the California Bar, had the privilege of clerking for The Honorable Arthur L. Once a sound is made it does not simply disappear, as most people think. It becomes a stray sound, floating through the atmosphere before popping up in a variety of places, usually with alarming consequences.

Since Chloe banged her head she’s been seeing strange coloured clouds, which happen to be stray sounds. She’s also met the Sound Catcher, whose job it is to gather up stray sounds so that can’t go round scaring people.

Seated on the Sound Machine, Chloe and the Sound Catcher zoom around the country capturing as many stray sounds as they can, including that of a dangerous dog that snarls and growls and frightens lots of children. At first Chloe finds it exciting. But things take a turn for the worse when she hears the stray sound of a mystery voice planning something diabolical.

To discover what the plan entails they need to capture more stray sounds of the mystery voice. Back at the Sound Catcher’s laboratory they listen to the stray sounds that they’ve captured and try to piece together all the clues.

About the Author
At school Graham was the kid who never paid attention. His English grades were always D or E, and he once received a report from a Geography teacher that said, ‘This lad does well to find his way home.’

On leaving school he began work in a local factory as a maintenance engineer. After ten years of building and repairing machines he applied to join the police. It was one of his better decisions. He spent several years as a detective and worked on numerous burglary, robbery and murder investigations, retiring in 2011.

Graham is the author of two novels: Bullies, Ghosts and Jars Full of Smoke, and The Sound Catcher.
