What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to write an entertaining story about a team of men and women who stand up to those who threaten all that is decent and worthwhile in the world. I've always loved the unsolved mysteries of history, which are key to this and many other books in the series. I use my experience of the Marines, my travel in the world, and my background in human psychology to give the story life. What isn't in my personal experience is carefully researched, to get things right.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Well, how do you answer that? Characters come out of nowhere for a writer. I thought about Nick, the principle male protagonist. He 's vulnerable, wounded, strong. Who could be his counterpoint? Selena is a woman with many strengths and skills, deeply affected by the death of her uncle, who adopted her as a child when her parents were killed (that's another story for a later book). She's tough, athletic, and smart as hell. Director Elizabeth Harker provides the guidance and balance the team needs. What is always exciting for me as a writer is when the characters begin telling me what they want to say!
