BookGoodies and Hurricane (SuperStorm) Sandy

Published: Mon, 11/26/12

For our authors that haven't seen their interviews or podcasts
posted, or that requested podcasts and haven't heard back from
us, I want to explain why the delay.

Hurricane Sandy destroyed BookGoodies founder Deborah Carney's house
and everything in it. We didn't have electricity for 2 weeks
and I didn't have stable internet until this week. While in
Broad Channel all of our daylight hours were focused on cleaning
out our home and helping the neighbors clean out their homes as
well. Our entire town lost their first floor, and all the one
story homes were a total loss inside. All the walls and flooring
are being torn up.

I drove from Broad Channel, Queens, NYC to Phoenix with all that
was left of our possessions in a Chevy Tahoe. I will be spending
the winter here. My daughter is very active in the San Tan
Valley, Arizona community and they have been very supportive
bringing food and beds and other furniture.

Here is a link to a public album on Facebook that shows our home
before and after the hurricane:

If you want to help (nothing is expected but many people ask so am
including the info so I don't need to answer 500 separate
emails with questions on how to help):

If you have extra kitchen stuff or bathroom stuff that is what we
are lacking the most. It's amazing the things you miss even
with people bringing in stuff. Simple things.

We have a "ChipIn" page that BookGoodies podcast co-host
Karen Garcia set up for us, most of what was contributed has been
used to rent the house and the Tahoe I drove here, and before I
left we used it not just for supplies for ourselves, but for our
neighbors as well. We used it to rent a car and use it to go get
supplies for the community as well.

Here is the ChipIn link if any of you want to help us rebuild, it
is only up until Novemeber 27th:

And if you have anything extra laying around the house that you
want to send, here is my address:

We lost all our books, movies, music that wasn't on the
computer. The wonderful autographed books that authors sent me are
all gone.

So even though I am finally in a safe place, it will be a few weeks
for me to get caught back up. I want to give a big shout out and
thank you to Karen Garcia and Liz Fogg for keeping things running
during the time since the Hurricane/Superstorm.
