DON'T Advertise With Us

Published: Fri, 04/21/17

I sent this email out to our author newsletters several months ago however we have a lot of new subscribers that need to be aware of how their actions affect our ability to be effective advocates for their books.  I am sending this again as a reminder and as a first call to those that are possibly overzealous and not paying attention.

I have been pondering writing this newsletter for a couple of months. It is horrifying to me the number of authors that have had to submit corrections to their ads only hours after submitting.

While we are offering a deal you might want to take advantage of there are a list of DON'Ts. Every time we have to manually change a submission there is room for errors, we might not get your email with your changes and honestly it makes us have to raise prices and prevents us from offering discounts in the future.  Our sites are priced based on partial automation of the process of getting your book on our site and into our newsletters and social media.  Anytime we have to make changes it takes away from our time spent promoting your books and making our sites better for readers to find us and YOUR books.

The Don'ts:

-If you are planning a free or discounted promotion: Don't advertise with us until you have *already set up your promotion on Amazon* - Free days, Kindle Countdown, you set those up BEFORE you submit your advertisement to our site.
-Don't advertise with us if you are changing your cover, updating your book, republishing under a new title, publisher, URL.  Yes, today we got an email from an author that *recently* purchased an ad and they needed the cover, url, ASIN all changed.  Seriously, you don't do that overnight, you plan that in advance.  Don't send us an ad for an old version if you are redoing all that.  Wait.
-Don't link to your book on a third party website that requires even more clicks to get to your book. If you want to sell books, link to your book.  It doesn't have to be an Amazon link but it has to be a direct bookseller link.  i.e. Amazon, iTunes/iBooks, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords direct link. Not your author page, not your website with another link to your book.  Every extra click reduces the effectiveness of your ad. Don't try and be cute and try to track links from our site to yours then to your book.  We will change the link to be direct to the bookseller.

DO:
-Please check your synopsis BEFORE you hit the submit button.  Many authors change theirs immediately upon getting their confirmation email. Don't make us institute a change fee.
-Check for typos in your title, your author name, your synopsis before you hit submit
-Add any promotional information in your synopsis. It says so on the form.
-Check your links before you hit submit.

Please be considerate of the services we offer to authors. Yes you are paying for your promotions and advertising but there are people at the other end of those promotions. We are running a lot of sites trying to get your books out in front of readers. If we are constantly answering emails and making what should be unnecessary changes we are not using our time and your money efficiently.  We are not a big business with cheap labor around the world. We are a small team that cares about our authors and our sites. When we have to answer multiple emails about changes that should not have to be done it takes us away from our tasks of promoting your books and building our sites to reach more readers.

If you must make a change: reply to your confirmation email.  We have a number of different promotions and if you just send an email that says: "I need changes - here they are" then I have to go dig around and find out what did you order? When? What promotion? That is wasted time for all of us when I have to email you and we have to do the back and forth email dance.
