The Lost Girls of Glinda the Good by Andrew J Heller

Ten-year old Sarah Johnson is lured away from her home in a tiny Native American village to another world by the Sorceress, Glinda the Good. Sarah soon finds herself a pawn in a deadly game between Glinda and the Witches of Oz. The year is 1809, long before Dorothy Gale set foot on the Yellow Brick Road, before even the Wizard, but Sarah Johnson’s deeds and those of her companions, Phil, the Logical Kalidah, and Dusty, the Dust Devil, will change Oz forever. The Lost Girls of Glinda the Good tells the forgotten history of Oz from long before the arrival of the Wizard or Dorothy. It is a story of a prophecy of hope turned by good intentions into tragedy, a story of courage and betrayal. If you have ever asked yourself why the Glinda the Good sent an innocent Kansas farm girl out to kill the Wicked Witch of the West instead of doing it herself, you will find the answer here. The Lost Girls of Glinda the Good is not just a story for fans of L. Frank Baum’s books, but for anyone who enjoys an exciting magical adventure with a serious theme: the nature of good and evil. Included is another complete Oz fantasy, The Giant Chinchilla of Oz by the same author

Targeted Age Group:: 10-23

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I grew up with L. Frank Baum's Oz stories, which were among the first books I ever read. As an adult, I retained my love for Oz, and have long wanted to write my own Oz book. I was fascinated with the character Glinda the Good, who struck me as someone who believes that the ends justify the means, and this book is the result.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The title character, Glinda the Good, was, of course, not my invention, but that of the great L. Frank Baum, although the version that appears in this book is rather more ruthless than Baum's original. Phil, the Logical Kalidah, was inspired in a very general way, at least in part, by Eric Flint's philosophical strangler, although the two characters are very different. The remaining characters are the product of a mind distorted by the consumption of literally hundreds of fantasy and science fiction novels of every kidney, from the very good to abysmally bad.
