What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
In 2013, I took a cruise to Eastern Canada, and at one point we stopped in a small town whose name I have since forgotten. But in this town, we climbed to the top of "Gallow's Hill" only to find a working elementary school immediately next to a graveyard. The school itself was an older architecture style, dating to the 1880s and 1890s–distinctively red, white, and black. It seemed like an ideal place to set a horror novel, and now I've finally gotten around to doing so.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I have a few Pinterest boards where I put images and descriptions that I think I might want to use in the future, and then I typically go through and look at names until I have four or five that are speaking to me and match them to potential Pinterest pins. The name for the main character, Martie, was actually a typo from me copying down another name, and that's the one that won.
