What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
The Spirit Box was my first start at a novel. I began it during Covid lockdown. I would often start and end up stopping as soon as I would begin. Sure, I told myself that I had written hundreds of songs (many of which had been used in television and movies) however a book was a whole other animal. Someone somewhere is always asking me to get back on it which I might do soon I would say. I'm READY I would tell myself.
Well, I eventually applied the creative discipline I give myself for songwriting and set aside time every day just to write….and write…and write…and edit.
Feeling the crushing weight of all that has been happening in the world around us I focused on writing a simple story that would focus on a moral lesson. It kind of all came together when my wife Heather came up with a great idea and the title – it became a challenge to myself at that point to finish it.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The main character was derived from someone that I knew that was absolutely obsessed with success – even at the expense of others.

Lothar von Richthofen was the little brother of Manfred von Richthofen, known as the Red Baron in the Great War. Lothar was not as famous as his brother, but he was also an ace, shooting down 40 opponents over the Western Front. He was shot down and finished the war in a hospital.
