What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Mandukhai the Wise was a real-life female warrior queen. Her story fascinated me and I knew I had to tell her story. The way she stood up to the patriarchy to rescue the fractured Mongol Empire isn't just admirable, but inspirational. She sacrificed her own happiness for the sake of the nation. And all while the men stood in her way. I'm not sure what more inspiration one needs to write a book.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The story is historical fiction, based on real-life heroes who lived in 15th-century Mongolia. There are well over 100 characters in total in the saga, and out of those 100, more than 80% of them are based on actual people. While I fed the emotion into the characters, history created them.
