Ever wonder why people in Greek villages live past their 90s? Is it good genes or luck? I’ll let you in a little secret…it’s neither. It’s their slow living lifestyle.
Greek villagers are known to have a long-life expectancy. They live a healthy, honest, and happy life. This all comes down to an all-encompassing idea of Siga Siga, which literally means ‘slowly, slowly’, but emblematically means to take a deep breath, embrace the moment you are in, practice self-caring, and exhale.
We have shunned the lifestyle that will make us happy – the one of simplicity and listening to what our body needs.
The Slow Life diet is all about lifestyle. It is a road that leads to health, good habits, and happiness. It is a condition according to which the soul lives calmly and steadily, being disturbed by nothing.
It focuses on eating right and creating healthy life habits. Greek villagers live their life in a way that focuses on their lifestyle and their habits. They create healthy habits, taught to later generations, and in turn become ingrained in society in general. By making little and sustainable changes in our lifestyles, we can gradually and sustainably take ourselves out from the unhealthy life we have created and recreate our life’s infrastructure the siga, siga way.
We use our positive momentum through our change in lifestyle with healthy and good habits that we can start creating things of value. In business, social entrepreneurship is putting people over profit.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This was to honor my background of being Greek but it also pays homage to my grandmother, who lived to be 93 years old, and the experience I had living on the island of Lesvos, Greece. Experience is a powerful tool in your arsenal as a writer. It is what shapes people and makes us grow as individuals. And when someone goes through a process of learning with trial and error, making strides, taking steps back, and then finally making sense of things, this is the school of life.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
All characters are real in my book. My grandmother plays a vital part in the development of the Greek village lifestyle.
Book Excerpt/Sample
“Like the village…nowhere else,” a common Greek saying goes. There is a reason why Greeks hold their village close to their hearts, regardless of whether they are living in a city or in another country. All of life’s lessons can be learned and implemented from things found in the Greek village.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but an experience makes those words eternal. These memories, these experiences were my memories, my experiences. Although having been born and raised in the United States, my parents, without fail, made a vow to themselves and to the Greek motherland that my siblings and I would not only be acquainted with our Greek heritage, but also to live and experience it as a primary source. Every summer for twelve years, for an entire three months, I would be immersed in rich, village culture, going back to the roots, steeped in history and tradition. And this immersion and the building of these foundational habits did not stop when we departed Lesvos; these were also incorporated in our lives even back in the States becoming even more intertwined in our upbringing.
Author Bio:
Stratis Kamatsos is a US and UK attorney who made a significant career change as a social entrepreneur. His plan was to find a balance between honoring his family and their traditions, creating something of value and to give back to his community and environment. To achieve these goals he established a company, evo3 Olive Farms (www.evo3oliveoil.com), based on their product, Olive oil, farmed by three-generations in his family.
Originating from the Greek island of Lesvos, Stratis’ company and product have won many awards, including taste and branding awards for the corporate social responsibility of evo3 Olive Farms. The CSR that underlies evo3 olive farms’ efforts is that for every product sold, a tree is planted in a deforested area in Africa and Haiti putting planet over profit. So far, the company has planted more than 40,000 trees through their partners and have created 400 workdays for the locals who plant these trees.
He is also a Ted X speaker. His talk, "Entrepreneurship and Empathy", focused on creating a business based on social value rather than only financial value. Please turn on the subtitles as the original language is Greek.
He has recently co-founded another business, Ethically Sourced For You, focusing on ethical and sustainable goods and products and changing the way we shop and how retailers buy their products.
