The road’s a wonderful place to earn a living, with endless experiences, points of interest and conversations with fascinating people. Anything you want can be found out on your travels – and that’s a beautiful thing, and also very dark: You can make of it, anything you want. What I’ve made of it has changed, over the years, but I find where I am now far more fulfilling than where I started. I would never choose another way to make my living. It is exhilarating, amazing, and endlessly providing. It can also be a place of terrible tragedy – always a stark reminder of what’s important.
Oliver witnesses a terrible accident as he heads for home after completing his latest rounds as a travelling salesman. It is the beginning of a downward spiral that he finds himself unable to fight against.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I was thinking about writing another story when we began considering plans for a summer vacation, and specifically, places to go camping. It brought about reminisce to camping past and other trips, as well as long days driving: Places, experiences; bridges. Words of an acquaintance echoed in my head as I thought back to last summer, and a moment where they pushed me to a rest stop. I thought the words that start the story in a sort of mocking voice of myself as i've pushed further than i should have, more times than i can remember – but i know the feeling. From those mocking thoughts the story grew, a few words typed out of amusement, and into a story.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The primary character began as simply thinking of myself in similar circumstance and considering those first words: A character that knows better, but has pushed himself, regardless. The other characters grew out of the first chapter, at first faceless and pointless, but deciding they'd be there, and then falling into roles as the first chapter flushed.
Book Excerpt/Sample
I recall the last thing I was thinking before I stopped, and call my wife, because I don’t want her to be concerned. She answers, and I explain, “I was not involved.” Before I can explain, she calls my name, but I assure her, “I’m fine, Lottie.” I spare the details and say, only, “Another vehicle left the roadway. They were the only one involved.”
“Okay,” she answers, and there is hesitance: As if considering whether she can trust me.
I tell her, “I need to see if I can help. I’ll – probably – need to make a statement.” I explain, “I wanted to let you know I’ll be delayed.”
Almost in a whisper my Lottie answers, “Be careful, Ollie.” Then, more loudly calls across the room to tell our daughter, “Ya dad says ya such a brat, he’s stayin’ out.”
I am nearly in tears as I listen to their back and forth, as Trinity comes right back until her mother gives up the pretense and offers her the phone. I am closer yet to tears as I hear her say, “Hi daddy. What happened?”
I tell her only, “There was an accident. I need to see if everyone’s okay.
