I discovered that when I look at a forlorn structure, particularly old homes with architectural interest…overgrown and abandoned romantic structures… I hear the voices of the of the people who inhabited them and am inspired by the sexual energy they exude to me.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Each story is based on a different architectural gem and it reveals to me what kind of man would be attracted to it and how the female spirit will enhance his life.

It was a cool, foggy night typical of the Northern California coastline and he was searching in dismal visibility for a bed and breakfast that promised to be an identical copy of a French Chateau in the Loire Valley. He was from Nebraska, and having never left the United States, it interested him.
He was tall, strong, and handsome with the chiseled jaw and commonsense manners of a Midwesterner. Having lived in the same proximity his entire life, he yearned for something different; a different style of architecture, different foods, and of course an entirely different kind woman. He had left behind a failed marriage and was still reeling from the grind.
Deep in thought and driving a little too fast northbound on Highway 101, his body jerked when his headlights reflected off a faded green sign with black lettering, Chateau Daphne. He screeched to navigate a sharp left onto a long and narrow, winding road that led to a jagged coastline barely visible through the primordial forest.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
It just had to come out. I have been writing for almost 20 years and this story was always in there trying to get out. I kept returning to it but then putting it back down to write other things, but it persisted and slowly pieced itself together from a elements rising in my subconscious. It was without a doubt a labour of love.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The characters emerged in my mind usually as amalgams of people and personas I have come across in life. The characters moreso represent approaches to life that seem to recur in people.

I lay back in the pergola. My mind dull, numb, couched in a haze to the outward world. I breathed deep the evening, the hedges … the swaying trees … the drenched grass. A gentle wind stirred the world. Leaves dangled an inch or two from my face and a great blackness expanded overhead. I could see time stretch out before me, coming into view as the slow curve of a great arc, an arc of fate and realisation, an arc that illuminates and obscures in one great unending movement, impending yet never ending, a never-arriving horizon, streaming on, hurtling on, amaranthine. It was like the plane of a great parabola, the trajectory of all trajectories speeding toward an uncharted singularity. I imagined slipping faster and faster forward, faster and faster toward some end, an unknown end, accelerating as the teeth of time bite unforgiving and irreversible into place. I saw it stretch out before me; the systematic chaos of fate, an elaborate sequence, the culmination of choice and chance curving ahead, moving me toward some end, holding out all I might want – all I had to do was reach out and take it. I felt sure and certain in that moment. Sure and certain, and then I feel that comfort passing, a single moment dissolving away, and like that it evaporates into the plain night air.
