This Is Ichabod Temperance in 1877.
Do you read me?
All gauges and relays on my end are indicating the calibrations are properly set. I am proceeding on the assumption that this trans-di-tempero-telegrapherator system is functioning properly.
I have transmitted a manuscript, detailing my incredible encounters with fantastic creatures of another dimension to your world. These horrible aberrations described herein are intent on unleashing a particularly tentacley behemoth loose upon our unsuspecting universe. This though, is not why this volume is so important. Unlike the planet Earth of your universe, mine was visited by a wondrous comet. Passing through the tail of this ‘Revelatory Comet’ had an unusual effect on many of this planet’s inhabitants. That was back in July of 1869. Since then, a spark of inventive genius has swept this planet. Now, in 1877, the whole world is swarming with clock and spring devices like ants on a peeled apple, dropped on an anthill.
‘A Matter of Temperance’ tells of how I meet and come to be in the company of the most beautiful girl in the World. I’m just an Alabama farmboy, as plain as the dirt under my bare feet, but I am one of the people that has been affected by the ‘Revelatory Comet’. I have a knack for invention. This is what leads to my chance encounter with the smartest, bravest, most pretty girl there ever could be. She is the famous British aristocrat, Miss Persephone Plumtartt. Miss Plumtartt is very sophisticated and important, heading the great Plumtartt factories and shipyards. Her late father invented the uncanny Sol Furnace. Miss Plumtartt was caught in the blast of a laboratory experiment, and has developed a strange set of abilities herself. The poor girl is beset by squiddley monsters and giant spiders from beyond the void, and because of my inventions, I am the only one who can help her!
I ain’t one for gory violence! Though there is fighting and battling throughout, I am careful in how I describe the more gruesome aspects.
There is no graphic sex in this book! Miss Plumtartt says that I have a way of accidentally sprinkling a bit of what she calls ‘mild innuendo’ around, but I am not sure of what she is talking about.
There is no strong language in this book.
I tried to write down what occurs to us in what ya’ll might refer to as a ‘steampunk/paranormal’ adventure, but somehow, it came out as being humorous and kind of romantic.
Eee-yowtch! These vacuum tubes are heated up to where they are fixin’ to pop! I better let ya’ll go.
