How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
It’s all about Love and it’s the one thing, I feel, I’m most familiar with. That said, romance is my genre of choice and though, at times, I may tiptoe around the outskirts of my genre, the heart of the stories remain the same.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Whatever story is roaming around in your conscious or subconscious mind, write it down. You can always rearrange a scene or change the way you tell the story, heck, you could even tell it backwards if you want! The key (at first) is not to get it right, but to get it down.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Nearly this entire story came to me in a dream, although, not all at once. It came to me as it’s written. I didn’t know the role of any of the characters until I wrote it down on paper, not even the villain!

The Story Behind This Book:
Priceless Proverbs is the result of hundreds of interviews with young children ages three to twelve, who were presented with the first half of a famous saying or proverb and then asked to finish it themselves.
It began as part of a larger class project by teacher Kristi Porter and the children of Happi Kamper Child Care, located in North Muskegon, Michigan. Each child was to create an individual gift book for his or her parents, and Priceless Proverbs was simply to be one chapter in each child’s book.
Now, the individual answers of the Happi Kamper Kids, as well as those of the children at Community United Methodist Preschool, and Power Play Childcare in N. Muskegon have been combined. Their diverse, candid, and often priceless answers may surprise you, or even make you laugh out loud, as you get a quick glimpse into the amazing and intricate minds of some of the most delightful and fascinating children around. About the Author:
Always a reader, Kristi Porter never thought much about writing until she entered a writing contest sponsored by the Detroit Free Press. Her nightmare vacation story – The Worst Vacation Ever – went on to be published in a travel anthology that sold over a million copies worldwide. This was followed by numerous articles published in local magazines and newspapers. As her love of writing grew, she added adult fiction and short humor pieces to her repertoire.

But writing isn’t all Kristi does. A preschool teacher, she won the Governor’s Award for her work with young children and is dedicated to the education of young children. How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
This is a question I often ask myself. What I do is just the opposite of branding, perhaps because I find ways to surprise myself. So my books cannot easily be classified in the narrow confines of a particular genre, because life as we know it–and my art, which mirrors it– constantly changes from one genre to the next. One moment is is humorous; the next, it is erotic; then, it might be a tragedy.

Consider my books: Rise to Power (historical fiction), A Peek at Bathsheba (historical romance) A Favorite Son (biblical fiction), Apart From Love (contemporary fiction), Twisted (dark fantasy), Home (poetry) or Jess and Wiggle and Now I Am Paper (childrens’ books), they all come from the same pen. I love writing both poetry and prose. They look different on the page: the white space surrounding the letters, in my mind, is like the surface of an ocean. In poetry, it covers nearly all the page, allowing only the a few words to erupt over the surface, because a poem in essence is a burst of emotion. As you read it, you cannot see under the white surface–there is so much hidden underneath! It is an island. In prose, on the other hand, the writer dives into the undercurrents and explores the landscape sunk beneath the surface, so there are many connections being created and being understood by the reader.

My writing has often been called ‘lyrical’ by many of my reviewers on Goodreads and Amazon, perhaps because I treat each word with great care, and give thought to every sentence, every phrase, every comma. Similar to the rhythm and rhymes in poetry, I listen to the rhythms of our speech, so the characters in my prose will talk in the flow that reflects their feelings. So all in all, I use parallel techniques for both my poetry and prose.

I bring everything I have experienced, everything I have learned into my work. My art and my writing are two sides of the same coin, which you can easily realize when you see the cover images of my books, and when you read them.

The process of creativity is, for me, the same. It is a juxtaposition of ideas, a spark that creates an inspiration.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
My best advice to develop your writing–besides reading a lot–is this: read your story aloud in front of a live audience. Listen not only to their comments and suggestions, but more importantly–to their breathing pattern while the story is being read. Are they holding their breath at the right moment? Do they burst out laughing, or wipe a tear when you intended? If not, you must go back to the drawing board and adjust your sentences.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I have long been fascinated with the story of Jacob and Esav. To me, it captures several layers of emotions which we all go through in our families: a rivalry between brothers, the way a mother’s love, unevenly divided, can spur them to action, to crime, even; and how in time, even in the absence of regret, a punishment eventually ripens.

The story had been brewing in me for several years before I put pen to paper. Being an artist, I had expressed it through sculpture long before I wrote the words. In my art, and in my writing, you can see Yankle and his mother Becky, plotting to cheat the father. Out of a sense of shame, they are unable to look each other in the eye…

About the Author:
Uvi Poznansky is a California-based author, poet and artist. Her writing and her art are tightly coupled. “I paint with my pen,” she says, “and write with my paintbrush.”
She earned her B. A. in Architecture and Town Planning from the Technion in Haifa, Israel. During her studies and in the years immediately following her graduation, she practiced with an innovative Architectural firm, taking part in the design of a large-scale project, Home for the Soldier.
At the age of 25 Uvi moved to Troy, N.Y. with her husband and two children. Before long, she received a Fellowship grant and a Teaching Assistantship from the Architecture department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she guided teams in a variety of design projects; and where she earned her M.A. in Architecture. Then, taking a sharp turn in her education, she earned her M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
During the years she spent in advancing her career—first as an architect, and later as a software engineer, software team leader, software manager and a software consultant (with an emphasis on user interface for medical instruments devices)—she wrote and painted constantly. In addition, she taught art appreciation classes.

About the Author:
Ahmad Ardalan was born in Baghdad in 1979. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to Vienna, Austria, where he spent most of his childhood and underwent his primary studies. After his father’s diplomatic mission finished at the end of 1989, he returned to Iraq, where he continued his studies and graduated from the University of Dentistry. As a result of the unstable political, military, social, and economic conditions in his home country, Ahmad decided to leave Iraq and move to the UAE. After facing difficulties to pursue his career in dentistry, he opted to pursue employment in the business world. Since then, Ardalan has held several senior roles within the pharmaceutical and FMCG industries, throughout much of the Middle East. His early childhood in a mixed cultural environment, as well as his world travels, increased his passion for learning about cultures of the world and inspired him to pen The Clout of Gen, his first novel. After eleven years of being away, Ahmad returned to Baghdad in January 2013 on a visit that was full of mixed emotions. Inspired by his trip to Iraq, he wrote his second novel, The Gardener of Baghdad.

Author Bio:
As a teenager, I read a story entitled The October Game by Ray Bradbury in an Alfred Hitchcock anthology paperback. That story not only chilled me to the bone, but it inspired me to write horror stories of my own. From those humble beginnings, I have written over 120 short stories, mostly in horror genre with surprise endings. I have published seven compilations entitled Black as Night, Shivers and Other Nightmares, Don’t Look Behind You-A Collection of Horror, Scary Stories.: A Collection of Horror-Vol 1-2 -3 & 4.

I have seen more movies than anyone I have personally known and enjoy most genres, but a good horror film has always been my favorite. Like Stephen King says when asked what horrible event warped him to such a degree he was doomed to write scary stories, I can honestly say, I had a happy childhood, and I simply enjoy writing horror stories more than, for example, romance or historical fiction. In fact, there does not have to be an underlying reason to write horror. After all, some people like chocolate ice cream; I prefer vanilla.
