About the Author
Even before he could read, H.S. Stone wanted to write a book. Fascinated by the stories that seemed to leap from his kindergarten teacher’s books, he went home and wrote his own book, with illustrations and bound by staples. Of course, since he didn’t know how to read or write yet, the book was full of gibberish.

Undaunted, H.S. eventually mastered the ABC’s and continued to write throughout his grade school years, adolescence, and into adulthood. Despite earning a degree and working in a field not related to writing, he continued to pursue his writing passion.

He has taken the long trail.
He passed alone in his Tucson apartment on August 19, 2014, at the age of 72. He had been battling several illnesses that eventually deprived him of his mobility and some of his sharp, witty mind.
Van was a very private man and guarded his solitude very zealously. I worked closely with him for over five years, bringing to light most of the manuscripts he had written back in the 1980s and some from the 1990s. He handed over the manuscript (handwritten) for The Men from Missouri only days before his passing. He often spoke of his desire that his characters, the only children he ever had, would live on in the pages and the minds of his fans and readers.

Van Holt wrote his first western when he was in high school and sent it to a literary agent, who soon returned it, saying it was too long but he would try to sell it if Holt would cut out 16,000 words. Young Holt couldn’t bear to cut out any of his perfect western, so he threw it away and started writing another one.
A draft notice interrupted his plans to become the next Zane Grey or Louis L’Amour. A tour of duty as an MP stationed in South Korea was pretty much the usual MP stuff except for the time he nabbed a North Korean spy and had to talk the dimwitted desk sergeant out of letting the guy go. A briefcase stuffed with drawings of U.S. aircraft and the like only caused the overstuffed lifer behind the counter to rub his fat face, blink his bewildered eyes, and start eating a big candy bar to console himself. Imagine Van Holt’s surprise a few days later when he heard that same dumb sergeant telling a group of new admirers how he himself had caught the famous spy one day when he was on his way to the mess hall.
Holt says there hasn’t been too much excitement since he got out of the army, unless you count the time he was attacked by two mean young punks and shot one of them in the big toe. Holt believes what we need is punk control, not gun control.
After traveling all over the West and Southwest in an aging Pontiac, Van Holt got tired of traveling the day he rolled into Tucson and he has been there ever since, still dreaming of becoming the next Zane Grey or Louis L’Amour when he grows up. Or maybe the next great mystery writer. He likes to write mysteries when he’s not too busy writing westerns or eating Twinkies.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
My book is different from other mysteries because it is a comedy about inept detectives. Rex and Eddie are more Laurel and Hardy than they are Philip Marlowe. Rather than tell a story about a hard-boiled detective, these two are more like boys in a man’s world; it’s a fish out of water story.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Write, tell everyone that you write, and be adaptable. By telling people you’ll find opportunities open up. By telling as many people as possible I’ve been given chances to write for the BBC website, for a Ubisoft video game, a late-night sketch show. It was all because I told people I was a writer and I took what ever jobs related to writing I could.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I love detectives and I love stories about teams coming together, so I decided to tell a story about two friends trying to be detectives, It was fun for me to write because I could lovingly parody the conventions of detective stories. I secretly, maybe not that secretly, want to be a detective and have even done some amateur stuff like helping my wife find her biological father. I decided it would be fun to play out my detective fantasies in novel form.

Sean Cameron is from Rochester, England and currently lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife and step-daughter. When not laughing at the British weather report, he finds time to write the comedy book series REX & EDDIE MYSTERIES.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
Anna Cruise spends much of her time writing Contemporary Romance, although has also written a fantasy novel as well. Melissa Pearl writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal, fantasy, suspense and contemporary…all romantic, of course. She is a total sap when it comes to love.

Writing young adult/new adult books can be quite different to adult literature and both enjoy the faster pace. These books are filled with lots of action and dialogue.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Both authors believe in the art of writing. It is a craft and needs to be studied and learned properly. They suggest taking the time to learn the craft and ask other, more experienced, writers to help writers improve their work is the best way to go.
Before you can publish anything, you need to have something worthy of publishing and this is a process…one that both these writers strive to improve on with each new book.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Anna and Melissa both love romance. They have been swooning over guys since they were young teens. They like writing stories that are a mixture of sweet and sexy, dealing with real life emotions and issues.

All four of these stories are set in the inspirational area of Southern California, a place Anna spent much of her youth and a place Melissa has spent much time visiting…and wishing she could live there.

Anna Cruise has been drooling over boys since middle school…and writing about them, too. She hates cliffhangers, is a sucker for nice guys finishing first and revels in happy endings–and not just in books.

Anna grew up on the beaches of San Diego but currently resides in Minneapolis. How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
I’ve previously published an urban fantasy novel (A FISTFUL OF EVIL), and it was very different to write this pure fantasy story. For starters, I got to create the entire world, from the changes I wanted to make to history to the magical creatures who were living in it to general everyday magic-filled life. Exploring how the magic system would impact daily life was a lot of fun, too. In urban fantasy, there’s often a disconnect between the average person and the main characters/magic-filled people. The worlds are layered together, but not necessarily fully integrated. In MAGIC OF THE GARGOYLES people live, play, and work with magic as naturally as we do with electronics.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Write the story you want to read, and see where it takes you. I thought this was going to be a short story, but it unfolded into a novella. And, of course, you never know what you’ll create unless you sit down and write!

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to create a world based in America in the 1800s with the idea that magic has always existed. Everyone has some form of magic, which means they can work with the five elements: fire, earth, air, water, and wood. Of course, there are varying levels of skill and ability, so the world is populated with a select few who are very powerful, a great many who are average, and some who aren’t very talented at all. But mainly I wanted to write about cute, alive, fun, magical gargoyles.

About the Author:
Rebecca Chastain is the internationally selling author of A FISTFUL OF EVIL. Before she ventured into publishing, she found seven four-leaf clovers to date, won a purebred Arabian horse in a drawing, and once tamed a blackbird for a day. She has been employed as a VHS sales clerk, bookshelf straightener, government pseudo-employee, professional finder of lost sporting goods, and strategy guide wrangler in the video game industry. Dreaming up the absurd and writing stories designed to amuse and entertain has been her passion since she was eleven years old, and she’s incapable of stopping. – At 26 I moved to Los Angeles and changed my life. Between bouts of creativity I worked intermittently as a software engineer to earn a living.
– Along with the bouts of creativity, I strenuously pursued psychological and spiritual awareness.
