Martin Murphy was born in Hull, England, in 1973, a city which repeatedly drew him back after stints in other cities to work and study – including a stay in the south of the country to do a degree in criminology/sociology, which was completed back in 1999. Worked as a trade magazines journalist in London for a couple of years before doing the decent thing as a proud Yorkshireman and returning to white rose territory, specifically Beverley, in 2007.

A few years later, Martin began work on Soul Lifter, fitting in stints at the keyboard between shifts working as an NHS health advisor. A round of public sector cuts in the summer of 2013 allowed him to focus on his passion for writing fiction, particularly of the dark, supernatural kind. Soul Lifter was completed at the end of December that year, and followed by his novella, The Carnarvon Creeper, which was published in August 2014.
