In the world of Allwyn, humans are almost extinct. A war amongst the gods, mirrored by their progeny led to the downfall of humanity and the banishment of their god. Now, a thousand years later, the remaining humans eke out an existence on the fringes of the vast empire of the dwarves, who have been tasked by their god to oversee them.
In one such settlement, known as the Cradle of the Gods, a young human named Ghile is preparing for his upcoming manhood test and his first Rite of Attrition. The rite is used by the dwarves to seek out humans who show signs of being potential vessels for an insane god’s return. The same rite claimed the life of Ghile’s older brother.
Meanwhile, Almoriz the Sorcerer and his over-confident apprentice, Riff, arrive in Ghile’s village for what seems to be just another of their annual visits. But their arrival triggers a series of events that thrusts Ghile into a prophecy that will mark him as the Stonechosen and unlock in him powers of the gods themselves.
But Ghile is not alone. Others chosen to fulfill the prophecy travel to the Cradle to seek out
the new Stonechosen and destroy him.
The time of the Stonechosen has come.

About the Author:
Thomas Q. Miller grew up in a small rural town in Illinois. At the age of thirteen he read his first novel, Dune, by Frank Herbert. That was the spark that ignited his passion for reading. It was the popular fantasy Dragonlance novels by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis which cemented his love of fantasy. He grew up devouring those heroic tales of swords and sorcery and like so many others, always wanted to add a little of himself to the genre. He feels if even one person reads his work and experiences that seed of excitement he still experiences from a good science fiction or fantasy read, it will all have been worth it. Thomas currently resides with his lovely wife and children in northern England.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
My first book, Twenty-Five, is a Contemporary Romance through and through. It’s about a couple meeting, dating, falling in love, and everything that goes with that. Honor’s Lark, on the other hand, is a bit harder to categorize. Honor doesn’t realize she’s in a love story until almost the very end. There’s also the fantasy element to take into account. She lives in a world with one big difference from ours. Writing without a clear genre is so much fun. I got to break rules and conventions and be really unique. Of course, I wanted to appeal to the readers who read the first book, so there is a bit of the Romance genre formula (the implied Happily Ever After).
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Find a community of writers, whether online or locally. Other writers are your best resources. My writer friends and I schedule time to get together and write; we discuss plot, characters, dialogue, setting, editing, etc; we beta read for each other; and we provide encouragement when needed (and when not needed!).
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Funnily enough, I was inspired to write Honor’s Lark by a pin on pinterest! That site is just a plethora of great ideas. There was a post where someone wished everyone had a charm (for a bracelet or necklace) and your soul mate had the other half. When you found your soulmate, the charm would warm up so you knew you found the right person. The post stayed with me and soon I was thinking about a world where love was pre-destined and what that would look like. Would people be spared the pain of heartbreak? Would love always be a guarantee? What type of character would be the most interesting in a situation where everyone is paired. The story snowballed from there.
About the Author:
Rachel is the author of Twenty-Five, a love story, and Honor’s Lark, a romantic fantasy. She was born in Buffalo, NY but grew up in Burlington, NC. Raised by northern parents in the south, she likes to say she got the best of both worlds. Her writing is inspired by classic authors like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, as well as contemporary ones like JK Rowling, Gayle Forman, and Claire LaZebnik. She loves to read and has been known to spend an entire weekend engrossed in the adventures of her favorite characters.

Sure you may have thought that you already knew everything there was to know about Germany and the Germans. Every school child knows that Germany is the land of circulatory disorders, Döner Kebab, naked sledding competitions and David Hasselhoff. But Germany is more than that. Much more. Did you know, for instance, that Germans invented the “Volkswagen,” brew over 5000 types of a popular drink called “Bier” and were actively involved in World War II? I didn’t think so. That is why I have gone to the great trouble of putting an enormous amount of my precious time and effort into compiling a work of literary and socio-historical “Kunst” that will now fill in some of those appalling gaps of knowledge you have.
This stupendously superficial and yet “Supergeil” seminal study will thrill you with its humorous ranting, incisive raving and profound collection of unpremeditated observations, crude commentary and unsolicited opinion, all presented to you by an accomplished “Deutschland” expert with over 30 years of active experience in “das Feld,” most of which having taken place in the baffling and bewildering city of “Berlin” itself (I was actually referring to me when citing that expert guy there).
This is “ein gutes Buch” and I can only hope that you will enjoy reading it half as much as I have enjoyed getting read of it (that was a pun), as in finally getting all of this pent-up aggression and frustration off my chest, I mean. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. What you see is what you get. It takes two to tango. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. You can’t judge a book by its cover. Well, in this case maybe you can. But have a good laugh and “Viel Spaß dabei” anyway.

I scarcely can recount to you the sheer dread I experienced at the moment of my birth. It was an instant of pure pain, surmounted only by the shock and horror at the sight of my hideous body.
You say it is unusual to remember so vividly the event of one’s birth? It astounds me that anyone could forget such excruciating trauma. What did it feel like? Like being struck by lightning, only the pain was a thousand times more agonizing. My nerves were zapped into cognizance by innumerable volts of electrical current—enough to return animation to that which had formerly been lifeless.
My mind burst into being in an explosion of raw circuitry. My limbs flailed in all directions. After the distress of electrification subsided, the incisive sting of my many flesh wounds overwhelmed me. Suture scars seared the perimeters of my wrists and of my groin, where parts had been attached that were inorganic to my form. The agony of mere existence saw me howling like a wounded animal, for at that early point in my being I possessed no capacity for speech.
It was only then that I beheld a human form hovering over me…

A very confident cat, called The Cat with a Bat, wanders into a baseball stadium. No one knows what to make of him, but he knows who he is, “I’m The Cat with a Bat and a Hat and a Mat and I play baseball wherever I am at.”
That explanation starts a series of confusions over the word “At” at the end of a sentence. Fortunately, The Cat-with-a-Bat, demonstrates his baseball prowess by knocking the ball out of the park, proving that stick-to-itiveness counts. Lots of fun and a rhyming delight with a little grammar lesson included.
A very funny tale of a Cat-with-a-Bat that ends every sentence with “At.” Much confusion, great fun and a rhyming delight with a little grammar lesson included.
If you love the books of Dr. Seuss, you will love THE CAT WITH A BAT.
