About the Author:
The author is a Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California’s Medical School at Davis, near Sacramento in Northern California. Jerry writes “tweener” mystery books (hard boiled stories that follow the cozy conventions of no graphic sex and no cussing) that are fast moving and entertain the reader, while introducing the readers to a region where he has lived and worked that is a long way from home for most English speakers. He and his wife lived previously in Salta, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay for several months each. Jerry selected the most interesting South American locations he found for Roger and Suzanne to visit while solving miscellaneous murders. Montevideo, Salta, Machu Picchu, the Galapagos Islands, and Iguazu Falls (pictured on the book cover for The Ambivalent Corpse) are also characters in these books, and the novels portray these places as vivid and real. Jerry and his wife Elaine breed prize-winning German Shorthaired Pointer dogs; Elaine also provides technical advice for Jerry’s novels like The Deadly Dog Show and editing for all of the books.

When struggling actress Charlotte Dent is cast as a leggy killer robot in a big, brainless summer blockbuster, the subsequent hiccup of fame sends a shock wave through her life. The perks of entry-level celebrity are balanced by the drawbacks: destructive filmmakers, online ridicule, entitled costars, and an awkward, unsatisfying relationship with the film’s fragile leading man. Self-aware to a fault, Charlotte fights to carve out a unique identity in an industry determined to categorize her as just another starlet, disposable and replaceable. But unless she can find a way to turn her small burst of good fortune into a durable career, she’s destined to sink back into obscurity. CHARLOTTE DENT was a 2008 semi-finalist for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award (ABNA).

The Halloween witch in this story is very perturbed by the visitors who come to her door. No candy for them, instead she offers spiders, smelly dead fish, or a handful of worms. She’s scary and grumpy. Her frustration stems from the fact that not one of the trick-or-treaters has the gumption to trick her, except for one kindly skunk. A tub of bobbing apples does the trick. How he does it is for you to find out.
Full of amusing rhyme and whimsical illustrations that will delight even the most outrageous Halloween characters in your household.
Over 30 delightful and colorful illustrations dance along with the story.

Featured Free Book: Book is free from 10/10/2014 until 10/13/2014 If the dates are the same, book is free one day only.

About the Book
In the tradition of the Great American Memoir, a middle-age father takes the reader on a five-thousand-mile road trip — the one he always wished he’d taken as a young man. Recently divorced and uncertain of the future, he rereads the iconic road story — Jack Kerouac’s On the Road — and along with his two sons and his best friend, heads for the highway to rekindle his spirit. However, a family secret turns the cross-country journey into an unexpected examination of his role as a father, and compels him to look to the past and the fathers who came before him to find contentment and clarity, and celebrate the struggles and triumphs of being a dad. Any Road Will Take You There: A Journey of Fathers and Sons is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story told with humor and grace, revealing the generational struggles and triumphs of being a dad, and the beautiful but imperfect ties that connect all of us. Recipient of a Book of the Year Award from the Chicago Writers Association.

Featured Free Book: Book is free from 10/10/2014 until 10/13/2014 If the dates are the same, book is free one day only.

About the Book
She’s Not Herself tells the story of Shapiro’s childhood in the iconic immigrant community of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, with her parents and a gifted older brother. Young Linda spent her days at home alone with a mother who suffered major bouts of depression. At such times, Linda was told, “Your mother…she’s not herself today.” Those words did little to help Linda understand what she was witnessing. Instead, she experienced the anxiety and hyper-vigilance that often take root when secrecy and shame surround a family member who is ill. Years later, after receiving invaluable tools from skilled therapists whose help she had sought and after more than thirty years as a behavioral psychotherapist helping others, Shapiro revisits her past in an effort to make sense of the effects of multi-generational traumas. Shapiro is ultimately able to forgive (without forgetting) those who left her to fend for herself—and to provide readers with the wisdom of a seasoned psychotherapist who has examined human vulnerability in its many disguises and has moved through it all with dignity and hope. The result is a memoir of love, loss, loyalty, and healing.

If you think old folks at the home are sitting on the porch, listening to the ball game and downing lemonade, then meet retired P.I. Bear Jacobs, his eWatson Lily Gilbert, and the rest of the quirky residents at Jessica’s Adult Care Home. Yes, they are infirm. Yes, they gripe. But all the while, they’re solving crimes and dodging bullets. They’re tough, they’re engaged and, judging by the enemies they make, they stand mighty tall on their canes, walkers and wheels.
In Bear in Mind, the first of the PI Bear Jacobs series, the residents investigate the case of Charlie’s missing wife. At first they think she’s a heart breaking bitch who abandons her hubby. But Bear learns that women in the community are disappearing at an alarming rate … and to no place good. Is a madman attacking older women, a la the Boston Strangler? Are body parts being stolen? Is a local crematory burning up the evidence? It’s a dangerous and twisted trail that Bear follows toward a surprising conclusion. Bear in Mind is a cozy with bite.

About the Author:
Hi. I live in the Pacific Northwest, out on the Olympic Peninsula. The most valuable thing in my wardrobe may be my rain boots. My dachshund is grumpy when wet, and since he’s shorter than the grass, he’s wet a lot.
* LESSONS OF EVIL was my first novel, written because trauma survivors are punished once by the trauma, then a second time by being misunderstood. It scared me to write this book, and it will give you a few jitters, too.
* My parents and my husband died in assisted care facilities, so I claim an unrivaled record for placing my butt in those hard visitor chairs. I’ve seen the ins and outs of the elder care world. FUN HOUSE CHRONICLES offers earthy guidance to anyone facing tough decisions for themselves or their loved ones.
* BEAR IN MIND has just appeared as a Kindle Select. It’s a return of the Fun House gang, this time solving a very ominous mystery. As long as you folks keep on liking Bear Jacob mysteries, I’ll keep writing them.
* I’m currently developing a series of novellas called the CASCADIAN REVELS. These are fantasies with action, fun, fear … and, yes, a message.

This book is bargain priced from 10/10/2014 until 10/13/2014 in USA, UK. Price is: 0.99, 2
Targeted Age Group: 25 – 65
Sam Autenburg is the manager of a small marina in Sydney. When a Canadian yacht arrives, sailed single-handed by a twitchy schoolteacher from Toronto, Sam knows right away that the Canadian is not a bona-fide cruiser.
A few nights later, in the early hour of the morning, Sam hears a woman calling for help. The Canadian is holding an escort on the boat against her will. Sam sorts this situation out, fruitlessly searching the woman’s bag for the cash and credit cards that the Canadian claims she had stolen.
Three days later, the Canadian is found dead in a brothel in Sydney’s red light district. He had been dipping into the cocaine that he had brought in for the infamous Reed brothers, who run some of the nightclubs, and most of the drug scene, in Sydney’s Kings Cross. The Canadian had overdosed on heavily cut cocaine. He had also been selling some of this cocaine, again heavily cut with worm powder. As a result, others died, among them Sam’s lover, Marie.
When aging escort Heather Todd rescues a stranger riding a wild self-destructive spiral, she discovers she has a chance to avenge the death of her sister, and many others. She taunts and cajoles the reluctant Sam into helping her gather evidence against the notorious Reed brothers.
When Sam agrees to join her, they embark on a daring, high-risk venture that takes them deep into the underworld, and then halfway around the world and almost home again …
Heather is a story about how people are changed by circumstance and pressure, both external and internal, and how when released from that pressure, some are able to become their true selves.
Author Bio:
“WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW.” UNKNOWN
“YOU HAVE TO LIVE IT UP BEFORE YOU CAN WRITE IT DOWN.” ROBIN MOORE.
After three decades of ‘living it up’, it is now time for A.J. Sendall to write it down. Not as a dry travelogue or memoir, but as realistic novels based on real life experiences. Experiences, which still run technicolour through his mind.
Since ’79, A.J. Sendall has been collecting people and places. From the polluted dust bowls of the Sahara, to the pristine ice floes of the Antarctic, he has gathered and filed them away. Some have recently pushed through the bars of insecurity and are now at large in the pages of his first three novels. Others await their future fates.
